Co Cavan Winter League Day 2, September 30th, 2012:

There was another large turnout for the Winter League Senior & Masters races despite the heavy rain at the start of the race. It was Annalee AC’s turn to host the event and it was held in Cavan town. The route for the men was a loop around the Cavan bypass and finishing at the Dublin Road while the ladies had a shorter 2k run in. Thank you to all who helped with stewarding and to Cavan Garda for assisting with traffic management.

Both Senior teams show improvement in performance with Gina Dolan and Eadaoin O'Reilly finishing in second and third individual places in the Ladies 2k race. Along with Lyla Dolan in 6th and Diana Hogan Murphy in 9th, the Ladies team finished in first place overall. Cian O'Reilly and Aodhagan O'Reilly came home in 3rd and 5th place in the men's 6k race, Andrew O’Brien was 7th and Val Gough 9th. This should be enough to win the team slot on the day. Fiona Connollly was the first of the V1 Masters home and Lorraine O’Reilly in 5th, Eileen Murphy in 7th, Deirdre Kelly in 10th and Eithne Coyle (guesting) made up the rest of the Annalee team which had to settle for second place. The V3 Ladies were also second with Brenda Wilson 2nd, Evelyn O’Reilly 3rd and Miriam Griffin 6th. Only two men ran the VI Men’s 6k. Paul Connolly and Fergal McManus finished in 6th and 7th place. There was no team. The V3 Mens race had the biggest field of the day and the V3 team of Colm McBreen, John Sherlock and Aiden Watters enjoyed their run and finished 4th club overall. There were good early season performances from Annalee AC's Aodhagan Watters (U16 Boys), Clodagh O'Reilly (U16 Girls)  and  Louis Courtney (U18 Boys) who all won their races with ease.

The Annalee U10 Girls were in excellent form with Niamh McCorry and Emily Sheridan taking second and third places. This is an excellent result as many of these girls are a year out of age. The Boys U12 were also strong with Daire O'Reilly in 3rd, Fintan O'Reilly 4th, Patrick McPhillips 5th, Conall Ruddy 9th and Adam Kelly in his first race for the club finessing 13th. The U14 Girls were in another tough race with Claire Young the first home in 9th. The team of Imogen Cole, Abbie Sexton, Eimear Bogue, Leah Smith and Orla O'Brien are in the 3rd place position.
