Clodagh O'Reilly, Annalee AC, takes the silver medal at the recent All Ireland U 16 Cross Country Championships held in Rataoth, Co Meath.
The championships were held in Tattersalls and the recent heavy rain left the underfoot conditions soft and wet which left the course very muddy and heavy. The U 16 race started at a blistering pace that quickly broke up the field of runners leaving Siofra O Flathery 936 the eventual winner out in front with Clodagh in second place as the race reached the 1km mark. Despite their best efforts the other athletes were unable to draw back the leading pair who gradually extended their lead. In the final kilometer the leader, Siofra pulled away from Clodagh and finished a very impressive champion with Clodagh second ahead of Aoife Hamilton from Waterford. Next week Clodagh will be in action in Adamstown, Co Wexford were she will run in the u 17 National Championship Cross Country.
Clodagh was also the first Ulster team member home, winning another silver with the Provincial team. Cian O'Reilly was 12th U23 and first Co Cavan Senior man home, Aodhagan O'Reilly was 3rd Senior home and the County Cavan team secured a further Silver medal in the B category
